Tentative Itinerary
*This itinerary is based on our previous experiences. Projects change every year based on the needs of our partners. This should give you a sense of what our week may look like.
Day 1: Welcome to Honduras
We'll begin our adventure in El Progreso, Honduras. With vibrant markets and tucked away coffee shops, set against the backdrop of lush mountains, El Progreso will be your home for the week.
Your trip officially kicks off at the San Pedro Sula airport where the World Compass team will welcome you and your fellow team members with open arms. Next we’ll settle into the hotel and, for those coffee lovers out there, you´ll be able to enjoy one of the best cups of coffee in the whole country right on site. The hotel has a mix of both modern and colonial vibes and is our top choice in El Progreso.
We’ll have dinner at one of our favorite local spots, followed by an orientation back at the hotel to talk about the housing project we’ll be working on this week, in addition to the context surrounding the project and the community. After orientation, we encourage you to continue getting to know your fellow teammates, or to catch up on some rest after your day of travel.
Day 2: Community Project + Meet the Souldiers
Rise and shine for a day of service and community connection. After eating a wholesome breakfast, we’ll set out around 9am for our housing worksite, while taking in the breathtaking scenery along the way. During the drive, your leaders will share local bits of information, history, language, and culture to help get you acclimated.
Once at our worksite, you’ll meet members from our partner community and have the opportunity to connect with each other throughout the day. You’ll also have the chance to learn more about the backstory of the family whose house we’ll be working on, as well as the challenges and opportunities the members of our partner community face. It’s a good idea to pack some sunscreen, bug spray and snacks to make the workday more comfortable.
We’ll finish the day with a tour of World Compass Foundation’s Souldiers program. To kick it off, we’ll head to Lobo Carrasco BJJ Academy, a space housed within CrossGym, a local gym and social enterprise that supports youth and fitness initiatives in the area. While here, you’ll meet with some of the students in the Souldiers program and will also have the opportunity to participate in an optional training session.
Day 3: Community Project + Entrepreneurship
Begin the day with your fellow teammates over breakfast at the hotel before heading off to the worksite. We’ll dive deeper into our housing project by continuing our work from yesterday. This afternoon, get your chef’s hat on with a local baleada making session. Baleadas are a classic Honduran recipe and are stuffed with some delicious ingredients like fried beans, eggs, avocados and Honduran-style sour cream known as mantequilla.
We’ll finish the day with a group dinner where we’ll have a fantastic view of San Pedro Sula while diving into the theme of Entrepreneurship. We’ll talk about the context of entrepreneurship in Honduras, the causes, challenges, and opportunities and so much more.
Day 4: Community Project
Today is our last day at the worksite with our partner community. We'll have time to share together with the community and the families you get to know throughout the week before saying our goodbyes and hasta pronto.
Day 5: Beach Day
As we wind down our journey, we head to the coastal town of Tela on the northern Caribbean coast where we’ll spend the day soaking in the sun. It takes about 1 hour to reach Tela, where we’ll be met by white sand beaches and turquoise waters. If you’re interested in exploring more, we can organize an optional visit to Tela Marine Research Center, a favorite among travelers and locals alike for its conservation work towards the protection of Tela’s lively coral reefs.
Finally, we’ll gather for disorientation – a tradition of every WCF team trip – where we’ll come together to reflect, discuss lessons learned, assess our impact, and prepare for the journey home, before our last dinner as a group.
Day 6: Departure
On our final day, with new friendships, deeper knowledge, and hearts full of memories, we return to San Pedro Sula where our group will say adios and hasta pronto!

Custom Trip FAQs
How does WCF promote ethical travel?
- Ethical travel has always been at the core of what we do. We consider a number of different choices related to social, economic, and environmental impacts when designing our trips and exploring so we can create better trips for you, local communities, wildlife and the planet.
What is the room situation?
- Custom trip quotes are based on shared room accommodations. If any of the members of your group would like a private room, we can accomodate them for an additional fee.
Are there COVID-19 restrictions?
- The Honduran government requires proof of a negative COVID test to enter the country or proof of vaccination.
Are there entry requirements to Honduras?
- US citizens do not require a visa to travel to Honduras. You will be asked to fill out 2 forms (immigration and health) online before departure.
Is this trip right for my group?
Many of our service trips involve a few days at one of our construction sites. Although this can be tiresome, it's a great opportunity to chat with the community members, learn more about the project, and enjoy connecting with local families alongside your fellow team members. This trip is all about connection, learning and adventure after all.
While we have a tentative itinerary, please prepare to be flexible as plans can change throughout the week depending on the project progress, weather and local events.
Honduras is tropical, so expect a hot and humid climate. Make sure you protect yourself from the sun, wear comfortable, light clothing and stay hydrated – especially when at the worksite.
